About Polymers in Ohio

People outside of our industry often overlook these two facts –
   1) Ohio is a world leader in the field of polymers; and
   2) The polymer industry is Ohio’s largest and most important industry.

The polymer industry in Ohio includes more than 2,800 facilities and 140,000 workers.  It generates $49 billion in annual sales revenue and pays in workers $5.6 billion in wages.

From its early roots in tire production and support of the automotive industry, Ohio’s polymer industry has grown.  Today’s computers, medical devices and many consumer products rely on technology and products from Ohio’s polymer companies.

The 200 Ohio companies that produce equipment for the polymer industry include many world leaders in their specific products.  These companies range from the global plastics equipment supplier, Milacron, to the specialty inspection equipment manufacturer, Pressco Technology.  Likewise the 200 materials suppliers from Ohio include many world leaders that use their special technology to support tomorrow’s applications.

One of the strengths of Ohio’s polymer industry is found in the concept of industry clusters.  A large collection of companies in a given industry provides advantages for companies in that industry.  These benefits are generated through such factors as the quality of the workforce, technology development and industry relationships that provide an advantage in business development.
