This technique uses an open mold. This means there is only a "male" or "female" form instead of using both halves together. The thermoset material is supplied as two components as described in the introduction. This is often used when making recreational watercraft. With watercraft, the plastic needs to be very strong. This means there is glass fiber strands mixed in with the plastic. Typically these watercraft are described as being made from fiberglass, but the glass is only part of the structure. Plastics like epoxies hold the glass fibers together. A form of gun mixes the resin and catalyst together while introducing chopped glass fibers to the mixture which is projected toward the mold surface. After the reaction has taken place, the part formed from the "male" and "female" molders are joined together with glue and/or mechanical fasterners to form the watercraft hull.
