Salman is currently assisting PolymerOhio, Inc. to improve strategies to commercialize Advanced material and bio-material innovations developed at Ohio research institution; consulting with large Ohio manufacturers with commercialization of new products/processes; and working with StrateSphere to help Ohio manufacturers grow their business globally, may that be in form of exports out of Ohio or replicating a manufacturing facility in the emerging markets of Middle East, North Africa & India.
He has more than 15 years of executive leadership and entrepreneurial experience in new business development, venture capital deployment, strategic planning, target marketing in stable, start-up and turnaround business environments in U.S. and Asia. He has an extensive background in promoting and supporting technology-based economic development activities while having worked with the State of Ohio in various positions:
• Worked with the Governor’s Office of Science & Technology and industry leaders in devising the first comprehensive statewide strategic plan for science and technology; responsible for two components of the plan, “Building 21st Century Entrepreneurial Climate” and “Seeding Technology Growth”
• Co-authored legislation, planned and led execution of multiple nationally recognized programs geared towards increasing “angel” and venture capital in the state and improving entrepreneurial climate of the State of Ohio
• Additionally, managed the Edison Seed Fund Program ($17 million), Defense Conversion Assistance Fund ($3 million), and assisted with initial establishment of Governor’s Technology Action Fund ($30 million) which evolved into the Third Frontier Program ($1.6 billion)
Salman is proficient as an entrepreneur in all aspects of competitive analysis, brand positioning, start-up operations, and executive relationship building with global clients:
• Directed an existing medium-sized auto-manufacturing business of 100 employees and co-led part of negotiations to achieve a technology licensing agreement with a publicly-traded South-Korean enterprise. Led implementation of ISO certification along with TQM and JIT techniques. Led efforts of product diversification for company
• Co-led multi organizational effort to develop the first comprehensive ERP solution for the auto vendor industry of Pakistan & directed first successful implementation of ERP in the company
• Served on the working Committee for development of a national “Auto Industrial Development Program” (AIDP) geared towards the turnaround of $3.6 billion auto industry of Pakistan.
